DMK leader and senior Tamil Nadu politician Udhayanidhi Stalin was taken into police custody from his Chennai residence on Tuesday morning following a controversy over remarks allegedly linked to actress Trisha Krishnan. The incident has triggered intense political reactions across Tamil Nadu.
How the Controversy Began
The controversy stems from a protest meeting held in Thanjavur over the Cauvery water issue. While Udhayanidhi Stalin was addressing the gathering, some members of the audience reportedly chanted “Trisha… Trisha…”. Comments made by him during the speech were later widely circulated on social media and interpreted by critics as containing double meanings directed at the actress.
Opposition parties alleged that the remarks were derogatory, offensive, and disrespectful towards women, sparking widespread criticism.
Case Registered
Following a complaint filed by leaders of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), police registered a case against Udhayanidhi Stalin under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police subsequently arrived at his residence and took him into custody for questioning.

While being escorted by police, Udhayanidhi Stalin briefly addressed the media, describing his arrest as “ridiculous” and stating that he would challenge the action in court.
